Marriage of Inconvenience

The beauty of art in all its forms is that it exists in perpetuity, allowing you to revisit it as you wish in your mind. And while I know that I can read any one of the books in Penny Reid’s Knitting in the City series anytime I want, I can’t bring myself to flip the last page of Marriage of Inconvenience because then I would have to admit that it is done. Finished. Over. That I now know everything in the hearts of these six fabulous women is cold comfort, as my illogical fan-girl self wishes for weekly dispatches from knit night. While my more reasonable self knows that all good things must end and in the case of this FAMAZING series, we get don’t just get the cherry on top, we get a whole sundae bar! Yeah, I know......I need to get out of these circles I am talking in and tell you just how much I loved Marriage of Inconvenience.

And love it I did. First of all, you need to carve out time to read this book, because once you start, you will not put it down. You will come for the (swoony) romance and stay for a truly fascinating look at commerce, regulations and some family treachery. I am not even kidding about that - it is reason #1043 why I love reading Penny Reid’s books, is because so skillfully woven into these wonderful love stories are topics that might not be top of mind, but are things we should want to know more about. Blood diamonds? Hacking? Bitcoin? The perils of working in the oilfields in a foreign land? All topics that have been in these books and have made me not only more curious, but also cause my ears to perk up when I hear them discussed on a newscast. For me, it simply enriches my reading experience tenfold.

Throughout the series Kat and Dan have been making googly eyes at each other, completely oblivious to the promise of possibility. Theirs is an epic love story a series in the making and as they inch closer, the reality is steeped in intrigue, missed cues, hot looks and a wealth of friends and family who want nothing more than their happiness. It is everything.

Much like her sisters in knit before her, Kat was completely unexpected and I keep thinking I missed something. But we only saw what our evil overlord wanted us to see. Kat is seemingly a quiet storm, churning in her own part of the ocean and easily dismissed at your peril. Underneath, she is a force to be reckoned with and it was an absolute privilege to witness her metamorphosis.

Dan the Security Man. Dan has been the constant, wearing any number of hats. Here we get to see him in different roles as son, brother and my favorite - husband. But no matter who we might think he is, the Dan we get to experience is even better. He is a good man with a great heart and I defy you not to fall in love with him.

While we are on the subject of Dan, I loved that Penny so wonderfully paid tribute to the Boston sports complex. Loving the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins is something folks in Boston are born to. They love their teams, through the good, bad and the ugly. These teams haven't always been good -- there were extra-lean years where they extra bad and while it wasn't always easy to love them, loyalty is loyalty.

This book though. It is truly a most perfect end to beloved series, these 6 women though fictional, are all of us. They value friendship, have strength for days, could teach a master class on badassery (Looking at you Fiona), love a good cocktail and know how to wield a Susan Bates as a tool and a weapon. What fabulous combination. Thank you, Penny Reid.

I loved this book. I am a bit sad that it was the last of the knitting group girls - I have read all of them plus the Winston bros. There isn’t a book from Penny Reid that I haven’t liked. I can’t wait to reread the books from the beginning.

Dan and Kat story was the perfect ending to the KITC series.
I absolutely love Penny’s writing style. It has humor, emotion some real life situations and very relatable characters. They are quirky, normal, strong individuals.
Dan was freaking awesome in the book. Kat was also great but I did not like her extreme self negativity.
I love the ending and the epilog. Just sad that the series has ended… I am not ready to say goodbyes to these characters.

Marriage of Inconvenience by Penny Reid is the seventh full length romance in her Knitting in the City series. This is Dan the Security Man and Kit-Kat's story, also known as Dan O'Malley and Kathleen Caravel-Tyson. Told in dual POV and can be read as a standalone this is yet another fantabulously wonderful tale from one of my absolute favorite authors, ever!

I absolutely adored getting to see more of Dan's perspective having become familiar with him throughout the series. His outlook on Kat, his relationship with his brother, his origins in Boston and his Dog Wally's real name!

Kit-Kat was always an enigma throughout the previous books. Quite, supportive, loyal and obviously attracted to Dan but with little else to go on seeing things from her perspective was also eye-opening and keenly interesting.

These two mis-matched people together crated an absolutely perfect whole. Despite the difference int their upbringings, one person's lack was another's strength and the depth of their feelings for each other just could NOT be kept down. An addictive page-turner that was devoured in as short a time as possible I highly recommend any and all things Penny Reid. Enjoy!
