The Map Room

Some records are corrected because someone made a mistake. Others are corrected because someone needed the truth to disappear.

Evan Rusk makes old county maps behave for a living. He reconciles road histories, parcel lines, emergency routes, and forgotten survey plats with the modern system. When Briar County hires him to digitize its aging records annex, the job should be routine.

Then he finds Larkspur Road.

Eleven years earlier, Evan's sister vanished near that rural stretch. The county later treated the road as an old name, moved her last known location, and searched the wrong ground. But an original map proves Larkspur continued through land now marked restricted—and someone deliberately corrected it out of the record.

The sealed Map Room at the back of the annex has kept what the county erased. As drawers open by themselves and vanished roads begin breaking into the building, Evan discovers that every altered record left its original location somewhere else: roads where help never arrived, rooms hidden behind changed numbers, and places where the missing were sent when the paperwork stopped admitting they existed.

To find his sister, Evan must restore the truth before the Map Room corrects him too.
