I think Bette’s backstory, which is mentioned in passing, plus the circumstances she finds herself in years later is a reminder just how cruel and brutal this new world is. But just when things go from dire to seemingly under control, she meets Deck. What promises to be a brutal and humiliating end is actually just the beginning of something sacred and beautiful. Once again, well done!

I loved how the FMC Bette had a stubborn streak in her. I also loved that Deck the MMC didn't just take but played a bit of mind games with Bette. This was the perfect transition read as I just finished a contemporary omega verse series and was going to read something much darker.
