A grave robber and a dead body reunite Navajo Police LT. Joe Leaphorn and Officer Jim Chee. Still distraught by his wives recent death he has put in for retirement.Working with Officer Chee has changed his mind about retirement and he pulls his papers. Both men have grown to like and respect each other. An eccentric Smithsonian curator, half Navajo initially impedes their investigation, but later becomes an intricate part of it. What unfolds is an excellent read full of Navajo lore!!! My highest recommendation!!

Tony Hillerman gives his reliable series even more freshness and vitality by transporting Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn to Washington, D.C., albeit by different routes. This novel is engaging, suspenseful, funny, tender, human and, as always, uniquely interesting. A great example of a master storyteller reaching new heights in his work.
