Description

She didn’t plan on falling in love with a broken man. And he never expected to need her…

When Emily Nelson answers a help-wanted ad for a live-in caregiver on a remote ranch in Washington, she’s just trying to piece her life back together for herself and her young daughter. But nothing prepares her for Brad Friessen—a rugged, brooding cattleman and single father whose silence speaks louder than words.

Brad’s world has been turned upside down by his ex-wife’s abandonment of their non-verbal young son, Trevor. Resentful and angry, Brad doesn’t have time for complications—or the quiet woman who challenges him in ways he never expected. But Emily’s fierce compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to Trevor begin to tear down the walls Brad has spent years building.

As Emily discovers the heartbreaking truth about the woman who walked away from her child, she finds herself caught in a web of secrets, betrayal, and emotional wounds that run deeper than she imagined. Just as Brad and Emily begin to heal and trust in each other, his past resurfaces—demanding everything they’ve fought for.

In a town where gossip travels faster than wildfire and forgiveness doesn’t come easy, can two strong, stubborn hearts find their way back to love—and build the kind of family they both deserve?

The book was just ok. I think too much time was spent in the beginning on the son and his behavior before he was diagnosed. It was obvious what it was but for a romance novel….Also, he never seemed to acknowledge her daughter which I thought the author didn’t even consider was important for a supposedly love story and the answer seemed have always been to put them in front of a television. Lacked anything beyond just ok.

I could not get enough of this story. Thanks for bringing awareness to readers about autism. Although the story was sad and very emotional, there’s a lot of information for parents and family members of autistic children. Thank you for being an advocate.

2nd attempt to read this book. Kudos to author for bringing to light a truly misunderstood and misdiagnosed brain disorder that not enough is said or done about. Just didn’t care for the immature main characters.

I love romance and mystery and children so this book was right up my alley. I love the intensity of the characters also. The only thing I didn't like was the dullness of the female lead character. After getting to know the male lead and after meeting the estranged wife, a normal female would be sharper. She would question the other female's motives and attribute most tragedies to that female NOT blame the male. Emily thinks Brad is lying and conniving when she is aware that those traits are not in line with his character. She also knows that the blonde wifey is not so nice. So why would she believe anything that wifey says? That was the only unrealistic aspect of the story. But I still love the story line.

This was two stories in one.

    1) the 1st half of the book is about how 2 single-but-still-married parents find love. She's just her husband and begun work as a live in nanny and cook. The boy, Trevor, shows signs of autism but Dad Brad is deep in denial. Her obvious love and gentleness to his son wins Brad over. But he is still married and his wife just came back after many years away.

    2) the second half of the book basically discards the kids to focus on Brad's toxic marriage to Trevor's mom. She's willing to do anything to sabotage what Brad loves...even if it means using her own son as a weapon. She may not want Brad, but she doesn't want anyone else to have him, or his money, either.
