PEN America 17: PEN Voices

PEN Voices celebrates the extraordinary work done at PEN American Center in the past year, promoting literature and defending freedom of expression internationally. With transcripts from the 2013 World Voices Festival, selections from our Literary Award-winners, previews from PEN/Heim Fund Grant recipients, work from the Prison Writing Program, and adapted favorites from PEN.org, this issue brings together fiction, essay, poetry, art, and conversation from all parts of the PEN world. Featuring work from Earl Lovelace, Jamaica Kincaid, André Aciman, Layli Long Soldier, Sherman Alexie, Gina Apostol, Sergio De La Pava, Orhan Pamuk, Liu Xia, Eileen Myles, Simon Critchley, and many more. PEN America: A Journal for Writers and Readers is published by PEN American Center. PEN America champions international authors and provides first-hand insight into the minds of contemporary writers through provocative symposia. In 2000, PEN America was named one of the Ten Best New Magazines by Library Journal. PEN America has been a finalist for the Utne Independent Press Award for international coverage, and work from recent issues has been selected for Best American Essays, Best American Stories, and the Pushcart Prize.
