The beautiful Japanese poem of Kenji Miyazawa, Ame ni mo Makezu is translated by Roger Pulvers and illstrated by Lisa Rydin Erickson. Poetry comes alive when it is taken to heart and spans generations. Soon after the tsunami of 3.11.11 in Japan this poem resurfaced as a seed of hope for the disasters that affected so many. This version of the famous poem is brought to the English language wonderfully by Roger Pulvers winner of the Kenji Miyazawa Prize of 2008. This being her first illustrated chapbook Lisa Erickson has created 28 sumi-e like paintings that draw out each phrase in a universal visual language. This first two handmade printings of this book created by Erickson were sold and all profits were donated to Tohoku region of Japan.
