Between 1993 and 1994 and separately between 2004 and 2005, pop-icon Michael Jackson was investigated by California law enforcement agencies for possible child molestation charges. The Bureau investigated these claims as well as threats made against Mr. Jackson and others by an individual who was later imprisoned for these crimes. While the California cases were streamed through news outlets all over the world, the threats and extortion attempts were kept somewhat under wraps. The FBI file reveals that in 1992, an unknown man threatened Jackson with letters reading, “I will personally attempt to kill if he doesn’t pay me my money” and “I will commit mass murder at a Michael Jackson concert if necessary.” The man was sentenced to prison in 1993 after pleading guilty to the threats.
