En 1941, lors d’un dîner de notables à Montargis, le poète Max Jacob rencontre Jacques Évrard, un jeune homme de 17 ans qui vient de publier son premier recueil de poésie. En rentrant chez lui, Max Jacob écrira son célèbre texte Conseils à un jeune poète. Le jeune et son aîné vont échanger trois lettres et ne se reverront plus. Trois ans plus tard, Max Jacob est arrêté par la police parce qu’il est juif, puis transféré à Drancy, où il meurt. Quelques mois après, le jeune Jacques Évrard s’engage dans la LVF, qui sera bientôt intégrée à la Waffen SS. À la fin de sa vie, en 1993, Évrard publie un livre étrange, Correspondance entre Max Jacob et un jeune poète, qui n’est pas tout à fait un hommage...
