This 128-page handbook, originally classified Secret, from 1963 was a comprehensive guide for training interrogators in the art of obtaining intelligence from "resistant sources." It was originally obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by the Baltimore Sun newspaper in 1997. (The full contents of two seperate versions of the document — declassified 17 years apart — are detailed in this new ebook edition.)
KUBARK — a CIA codename for itself — describes the qualifications of a successful interrogator, specific methods of questioning and reviews the theory of non-coercive and coercive techniques for breaking a prisoner psychologically. It also delves into the use of drugs, hypnosis, and sensory deprivation, as well as other nastier approaches.
