Denied Access is a captivating read that reeks of reality while delivering fiction. Mitch Rapp is a complex and amazing character who continually captures your imagination. Vince Flynn and his Team have done it again!

Vince Flynn created Rapp, and Kyle Mills did a fantastic job of continuing with the Rapp world. When they announced that Don Bentley would be taking Mills’s place, I groaned; he butchered Tom Clancy and I had no realistic hope that he’d do justice to Flynn and Mills. And he hasn’t. I gave him two chances, but I’m sadly done with the Rapp series. Bentley just tries too hard. Flynn and Mills made us believe. Bentley tells us to believe. That’s not how it works. And - this is a pet peeve of mine and there are a few authors that guilty of this - stop giving us descriptions of the fine cuisine the Rapps of the world eat. We don’t freaking care. The story isn’t about a French dish. Cut it the F out.

After two books it doesn’t look like Don Bentley is the right author for the Mitch Rapp series. While Denied Access is a slight improvement from his previous outing it still displays Bentley’s numerous weaknesses as a writer, but especially for Mitch Rapp. Mischaracterization, overuse of words or phrases, nonsensical actions, it’s just shy of a complete mess.

So if you have read this entire series (like me), you were likely interested in understanding what had happened in Moscow that so many people had heard of but was only spoken about as a ghost who could have succeeded in pulling it off. That ghost is Rapp and this is that story. It’s a good read.

Bentley has captured my imagination of who and what the young Mitch Rapp could be like, especially after American Assassin. The story line is intelligent and intriguing, plus brilliantly written. I look forward to more from this author.
