Dr. Sophie Armstrong just got her first big win after a year of setbacks. An ecologist at Riverbend’s Indiana Polytechnic, she lands a partnership with Wilderness Watch, a leader in remote surveillance, to commercialize remote wildlife cameras. Everything is on the line—her career, her department’s financial future, and her reputation. This is Sophie’s last chance to prove she isn’t anything like her wildlife-smuggling, law-breaking family members who were very publicly arrested in Riverbend.

Special Agent Blake Evans and his K-9 partner, Ranger, are ready to settle down. They’ve spent the past several years investigating arson to prevent wildfires, and life on the road isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. When a job offer comes from Riverbend K-9 Academy, Blake jumps at the opportunity to train other agents and finally put down some roots in the small Indiana town.

When Sophie finds a gun repair kit as she’s setting cameras in the woods, she doesn’t think much of it…until she gets back to Riverbend and her cameras malfunction. Amidst injuries, fires, and unexplained data deletions, she’s in over her head. As much as she would rather avoid the FBI, she soon realizes that Blake and his playful Labrador retriever are exactly what she needs. With no time to spare, Sophie, Blake, and Ranger must team up to protect the people and wilderness they love.
