In der nähe des jupiter gerät die tachmasib in einen meteoritenhagel, wo ihr antrieb stark beschädigt wird. die tachmasib stürzt in die jupiter-athmosphäre, wo sie wegen des großen drucks in einer gewissen tiefe nicht mehr sinken kann und "schwimmt". Die gravitation ist derart stark, daß die mannschaft mit einer großen überbelastung leben und arbeiten muß. trotzdem kann der antrieb repariert werden, ein startversuch wird gewagt und gelingt.
Stark beschädigt kommt die tachmasib auf der amalthea an.
