Nous sommes dans les années 1970. Étienne Robial et Florence Cestac ont ouvert la librairie Futuropolis et créé les éditions du même nom. À ses (rares) heures perdues, Cestac griffonne, sur son éphéméride, un personnage transgenre, moitié animal (Mickey Mouse) moitié homme (le détective Harry Dickson). Un peu plus tard, un premier album éponyme paraît ; il est daté du quatrième trimestre 1980. S'ensuivent cinq autres albums, tous rangés sous la glorieuse bannière de Futuropolis : Harry Mickson nettoie ses pinceaux (1982), Mickson et les Gaspards (1985), Ma vie est un roman policier (1986), Le Chien coiffé (1986) et enfin – premier chef-d'oeuvre qui lui vaudra un Alph'art de l'humour à Angoulême –, Les Vieux Copains pleins de pépins (1988).
