Soldier

Now Alina will enter a lavish world of royalty and intrigue as she trains with the Grisha, her country’s magical military elite—and falls under the spell of their notorious leader, the Darkling. He believes Alina can summon a force capable of destroying the Shadow Fold and reuniting their war-ravaged country, but only if she can master her untamed gift.

As the threat to the kingdom mounts and Alina unlocks the secrets of her past, she will make a dangerous discovery that could threaten all she loves and the very future of a nation.

This book had potential but didn’t do it for me. Things felt too surface level, I never got emotionally involved and at the end, I had no desire to read the next book.

I'd love to give this first book of the series 3.5 stars, but since I have to choose, I'm leaning slightly closer to a 3. While I genuinely enjoyed the story, it just didn't quite have the "oomph" I was looking for to earn a full 4-star rating. Something was missing, preventing it from becoming a truly immersive read.

Despite the fact that the plot was at times predictable, I appreciated the unique world-building and overall concept. It was an enjoyable journey, though not one that had me completely gripped from start to finish. There were moments where the narrative felt put-downable, though not for long, and the prose occasionally broke the easy flow of reading.

I wonder if I would have been more captivated by this story in my younger days. I'll admit, it's my own fault for coming to this series so late. Regardless, it was a solid and entertaining read, and I'm definitely continuing the series to see what comes next.
  • Just okay

For me this book was just okay. This book took a couple days for me to read and I felt like some chapters I was all in and reading in spare moment. Other areas of the book were just too dull, the story also felt too choppy or as if entire sections were missing. I probably won’t continue on with the trilogy but the book was fine, just okay, served its purpose of distraction I guess!

By my name is Lindsay Lovegood
for starters,i give it a 3 1/2 out of 5.my opinion was that it was just way too sappy and the beginning was sooooo hard to get through and when i finally got to the little palace it started getting good but then came the love triangle between Mal,Alina, and the darkling.and in my opinion it wasn’t really necessary to add that. i will say,i loved the writing of the darkling and his villain arc but that’s basically all i enjoyed about it.i’m going to finish the series but i do have high hopes that’s it’s a lot better than the first one and hopefully i like the rest of the books

Not the worst i’ve ever read, but considering the quality of “the six of crows,” it was definitely a disappointing read. Otherwise the plot was relatively unique and writing style was above average.

It is good but there are some characters who say he is fat and big stuff Ik they are showing how the characters look like but a bit rude about It but I respect that as long as they are not body shaming the characters I liked the book.

I love this series, I always hate the bad guy but I fell ‘in love’ with him. The characters are amazing and well written and it’s cool to see the protagonists story and the e irony and story with her and the antagonist. The movie ends wrong because they added another series the author wrote which I have not read, so once again the book is better than the movie but once again: awesome book.

I was recommended this book by a really close fan and was skeptical at first. It sounded a little boring BUT: Give the book a chance. It is PERFECTION. It’s very descriptive and detailed and I just couldn’t put it down. I have to say, Siege and Storm was a bit of a letdown but then Ruin and Rising is just Chef’s Kiss. So read it! It’s sooooo good!
