This telling is magnificent. It is about life and love and losses. Humans can make a difference and the Power of One details how. An amazing read! I was transported every time I picked up the book. His world is so dichotomous on a continuum. There is always the detractor or hurdle and Peekay keeps plugging and chugging. The mental processes he he uses to guide himself are timeless and an inspiration. Barb

I learned a great deal about South Africa yes there are disturbing things, how could there not be... but the is also the love of the professor who takes takes a guiding hand, the good and bad of the white tribes and many black tribes of S.A. The love to two mothers -his own troubled mother who gives us a peek back to SA's troubled history and a worm loving black woman who cares for him
PK's open eyes let's you see all without pre+judgement or agenda...the vile death of a black prisoner by a vicious Africans guard who then has a tortured death of his own is far from the central point of this wide rangingbook

I was enjoying the humor of the child’s view of things. But the horrible abuse and terrible anguish of the child and killing of his only friend was so hurtful to me, I had to stop reading. I don’t even want to look at the book in my library and am deleting it after this review. If you are sensitive, do not read this even though it is very well written. I wish the sample had contained 30 more pages before I wasted $13.
