What happened with Laurie and Jo??

It was a great read except for Laurie and Jo’s relationship.

At first, they seemed perfect, which they were. They both had a fun-loving spirit and brought everyone together. Then, when Laurie confessed his feeling, Jo just shunned him. There was no reason for this. She could still have written and explored, just with Laurie while he courts her.

Then he becomes sullen, naturally, and forms a strange, unsatisfying romance with Amy. There was nothing to show that Amy had ever been interested in Laurie and the same the other way. It just felt like Laurie was looking for a relationship and happened upon his former love’s sister.

Then, when Jo realizes that she actually loves Laurie, it’s too late because he’s already married Amy. It felt the same as Laurie and Amy when Jo went searching for a new relationship with the professor.

In the end, it was a delightful read, I felt the highs and the lows with the characters. However I cannot recommend it because of the dramatic, unsatisfying, turns it takes with Laurie and Jo’s friendship and relationship.

Though this book was different from what I usually read, I’m very glad that I can now say that I’ve read it. Louisa May Alcott did a great job telling Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy’s stories, while also giving equal value to all of their aspirations regardless of how much they differ from one another’s. More men should consider reading this.
