Description

The 120 Days of Sodom or the School of Licentiousness (Les 120 journées de Sodome ou l'école du libertinage) is a book written by the French writer Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade in 1785. It relates the story of four wealthy men who enslave 46 mostly teenaged victims and sexually torture and kill them while listening to stories told by old prostitutes.

The book was not published until 1905. Originally written in French, it was translated into many languages, including English, Japanese and German. Due to its extreme sexual and violent nature, the book remained banned in many countries for a long time.

Without a doubt, the most vile, sick and horrible thing I've ever read. But interesting nonetheless. Its awful. Just awful, awful. Not sure how to rate this, but the fact that it made me sick indicates the writing is good lol.

Once I learned something of Sade I was able detach myself from the violence and appreciate what a great writer he was. The way he builds the story and creates such vivid images of for instance the travel to chateau on it's environs. I can't condone the the acts described but his writing style kept me turning the pages while fighting back the nausea. Justine was a great read but I have to agree 120 days my be he best writing.

Well written, but very disturbing subject matter. I don't know if I condone the torture/murder/rape of children, but, a hard to read book, what with all the poop eating. No wonder why the word "Sadism" was derived from De Sade's name.
