    The Pearl is perhaps Steinbeck’s most beautiful novella despite its harrowing conclusion. Descriptions leap off the page and inner emotions are conveyed via primal truths an average writer couldn’t express. The musical motifs and fable-esque quality invokes mysticisms as the lowly protagonist is crushed by the system he tries to ascend.

    Baby gets sick, they find a pearl, it’s evil, they almost die, the baby does tho, and the pearl is back in the ocean.

    There. Now you don’t have to read it.

    I normally like what I read but I hated this book. It has an unnecessary amount of descriptions. It has close to 100 pages when it could be taken down to 40, removing 60 pages of descriptions still making the book interesting.

    Also I would normally read this book in just a couple of hours but I found it SO boring it took me two weeks to read.

    I do not recommend this. If zero stars were an option I would pick it. If you don’t have to read it, then don’t.

    Read this in fifth grade love the metaphors my older brother got named Kino because my mom read this book while she was sons chill to and loved it great story I love how John used the ants as a metaphor to compare how it was different on both sides.

    People say it is a boring book but they aren’t explaining why. I have this book as one of my choices to read for a class project. I wish they would explain why they don’t like it because I want to make an informed decision on wether or not I want to read this book.
