Description

Ayn Rand's first published novel, a timeless story that explores the struggles of the individual against the state in Soviet Russia.

First published in 1936, We the Living portrays the impact of the Russian Revolution on three human beings who demand the right to live their own lives and pursue their own happiness. It tells of a young woman’s passionate love, held like a fortress against the corrupting evil of a totalitarian state.

We the Living is not a story of politics, but of the men and women who have to struggle for existence behind the Red banners and slogans. It is a picture of what those slogans do to human beings. What happens to the defiant ones? What happens to those who succumb?

Against a vivid panorama of political revolution and personal revolt, Ayn Rand shows what the theory of socialism means in practice.

Includes an Introduction and Afterword by Ayn Rand’s Philosophical Heir, Leonard Peikoff

A must read for 2021. American communism is on the rise, and if we don’t stop it we will suffer the fate of the characters of this book. You have to read it.

A great novel with captivating characters and complex plot lines, all revolving around the theme of the individual vs. the state. I was captivated reading this amazing work of fiction, and it will haunt me for a very long time as to the lengths one would go to in Soviet Russia. Please read one of Rand's less famous, perhaps underrated novels. It will change your life.

A great read. If this book doesn't cure you of your delusional socialistic visions, then nothing will!

I've been told Rand's description of the early Soviet Union in this work is accurate.

A must-read for the Ayn Rand believer, her first novel, set in the Soviet Union, from which she fled in real life. As in The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, she proposes her ideas of individualism and objectivism, in this case against the forces of communist tyranny. Although without the maturity of her later works, this novel provides a glimpse into Rand's world, one in which I, and suspect many other Rand readers, would prefer to live, rather than the present one which rewards political correctness and mediocrity. Highly recommended.
