Dans leur village de Ponchartrain l’Écluse, François, 13 ans, fils d’un agriculteur, et Eusèbe, fils de l’instituteur, voient arriver les troupes allemandes. Révolté par la passivité des habitants, François décide d’agir. Avec l’aide d’Eusèbe et de Lisa, une jeune Allemande qui a fui le régime nazi, il se lance dans sa première action de résistance : saboter les vannes de l’écluse pour bloquer la circulation sur le canal.
