La veille de la bataille de Fontaine Française, le 4 juin 1595, un ligueur qui vient d’abandonner l’armée de Mayenne se présente au château de Fontenailles. Quelques jours après le débarquement du 6 juin 1944, un fuyard de la Milice vient chercher refuge dans le même château. Le temps est aboli : entremêlés avec une telle ressemblance que l’un paraît répondre à l’autre, les deux récits vont se poursuivre pour former une seule histoire.
