  • Poorly written with terrible dialogue

    It has the broad strokes of a decent plot—an inter-generational soap opera with amazing locations. I can see how Crazy Rich Asians became a movie; the scriptwriters fixed many of its issues, including Rachel’s unrealistic naïveté and her wishy-washy love interests.

    But, wow, did this need a few more editing passes. Was this originally self-published? The rudimentary writing style with its overuse of exposition and intermittent dashes of casual racism were distracting. The way the first book just *stops* is so jarring; almost as though the rest of it somehow fell out of my digital copy.

    Maybe it gets better after the first book? I don’t know yet. Don’t buy the trilogy unless you know what you’re getting into.

    I loved the Crazy Rich Asians movie and just couldn’t wait for the next one to come out. I started reading the book and couldn’t put them down! Finished the last one today and I’m wishing they would continue! Great read!

    I saw the movie Crazy Rich Asians and decided to read the trilogy. I couldn’t stop reading. I truly enjoyed it. I’m hoping there will be a continuation of the movie for part 2&3. And

    This book is vivid it's a perspective I don't think some of the characters would even comprehend. I cried so much throughout the book I cried for Astrid. I cried for Rachel and Nick. I cried for her mother, his mother. I was in shambles for Ah Ma. I even cried for Kitty, I didn't mean to but that is how well written this book is. The characters lives are at your fingertips and I couldn't turn. The pages fast enough. The culture, the fashion, the references have your heart hurting with love. I'd read every book referenced, seen the movies, the shows, the clothes I'd only dream of seeing in a window. But this trilogy is by far the most beautiful, hilarious and delightful series. I started reading this book in a bookstore in Japan Town in San Francisco and downloaded the entire series for my flight home, and now can't wait to watch the movie.
