George Colman, known as "the Younger", was an English dramatist, writer of scurrilous satiric verse and theatre manager whose comic operas, farces, melodramas, and sentimental comedies were box-office successes in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
A three-act musical historical drama “The Surrender of Calais” was first performed in 1791. Six citizens of Calais, in response to an offer from the attacking English King Edward, volunteer to sacrifice themselves so that their fellow townspeople might be spared. An intriguing plot, touching story and remarkable characters will not leave you indifferent.
We are glad to present you the dramatist, “an amusing versifier”, whose works will make you laugh. Enjoy the reading.
