    The concepts in this book have been life changing for me. it’s is timeless, whole and so simple yet complex. This book requires at least 2 reads, if not more, the value you gain once you understand it is limitless.

    I’m not cerebral enough to process this thoroughly, and that’s a caveat written into the philosophy. The ‘you’re not trying hard enough’ motif is a protection for Tolle.

    Certainly understand that this may be valuable to certain folks taking life ‘one day at a time,’ as most substance abuse survivors do - because what else is there for folks who have no other choice when it comes to addictive behavior?

    I don’t know…. My utility bill is coming tomorrow and I have to plan to pay that. Advanced planning has some value - on a basic level. Sure enough, Tolle feeds you the idea that it’s not the point to dwell on that.
    There are 60 seconds in a minute and for 59 you can say to yourself that it’s all good and you’re solid in this philosophy, but then that ONE second when your bill is due? Ooooof, and you’re not trying hard enough to minimize reality. Does one break down the one minute realizing you have a bill to pay into micro seconds? The bill is still there.

    I cannot help but feel that this material is raised by substance abuse folks, going through rehab, etc. To those folks, your NOW is who you ARE and need to be. Because in whatever future you are potentially broken, subject to an addiction.

    Nuggets of wisdom can be lifted from this text, sure, but it’s too difficult for the lay person to apply practically to the real world.

    I helped my brother move his house and ‘The Power of Now’ hold him he wouldn’t need more packing tape. Sure. At 7AM, you don’t NEED the tape. But at 9AM when the movers are doing their work, you’ll need it. … and I was the one to get it, while my brother was Zen in the ‘now.’

    A reminder - this guy is selling material so that his many ‘now’ moments don’t have to be worried about paying bills, etc., in the future.

    What comes first? The chicken? Or the egg? LOL, also, bird flu is a thing now so philosophize that.

    Great book. Really puts you in a place to acknowledge just how much your mind runs your life, and how it is pretty simple to separate from it and become present.

    There are some good nuggets in the book that could help a person with certain mental illnesses. At the same time, there are too many missed opportunities to address the reality of past and future impacts on Now. Basic human needs; such as nourishment, sleep, physical pain, etc. require a certain amount of suffering that signal the brain to address the problem. Without darkness there is no light, and this book implies life can be only light if you just work towards living in the Now. I would never recommend this book.

    Unfortunately, it down loaded book in text. I would like to have it in audiobook. I’m disabled and can’t hold a book. Otherwise, I’m hoping to review it once I can get the audiobook.
