This Cairo is so fully authentic that I find myself wanting to explore the whole world the spins around its ancient core. Fatma is a real person who is also a woman. That fact alone is evidence of P.Djeli Clark’s art and power. I look forward to more travel in this world.

I rarely take a chance on a writer I’ve never heard of. So glad I ignored that this time. I love steampunk and this was an outstanding first novel by P. Djeli Clark. I hope to see more of Fatma’s adventures in the future

This is the best book that I’ve read in a long time. The author made me believe in God and goddesses, jinns and Angels, and other assorted beings that inhabits this world! I couldn’t stop reading.

Amazing story with strong female characters in a rich and magical universe. I literally can’t wait for the next one.
