The 2 reviews b4 r a bit harsh IMO. I haven't finished it yet but I am thoroughly enjoying this 1. Though not as large scale as Imagica, The Gr8 & Secret Show, & Everville, I love the detail of it. Good 2 revisit Harry & Pinhead! My favorite Clive Barker novel will always b The Damnation Game. I absolutely loved the lengthy & detailed Imajica, Gr8 & Secret Show, & Everville & my only criticism with Gospels is that it feels 2 edited. I was hoping 4 a more lengthy journey. The Hellbound Heart was like that; short & intense. I've been reading Barker 4 29 yrs & I read a lot but when I pick up a King or Barker novel it's like coming home.
  • Nicely tied up things ... but feels a tad rushed.

I enjoyed the book, especially visiting with old friends as it were. But I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being rushed along. Some things were covered in too broad of stokes. It definitely puts a pin in Pinhead (yep, I went there), and ties up things nicely, though.

As a devout Clive Barker fan, I'm really having a hard time getting through this one. I can't seem to wrap my head around what is even going on and it's leaving me in a snore fest. I'm very close to not finishing it but if I do, then I will revisit my review and update it as I think necessary.
