Description

With his lover imprisoned in a Russian gulag, the Gray Man will stop at nothing to free her in this latest entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

A winter sunrise over the great plains of Russia is no cause for celebration. The temperature barely rises above zero, and the guards at Penal Colony IK22 are determined to take their misery out on the prisoners—chief among them, one Zoya Zakharova. Once a master spy for Russian foreign intelligence, then the partner and lover of the Gray Man, she has information the Kremlin wants, and they don't care what they have to do to get it.

But if they think a thousand miles of frozen wasteland and the combined power of the Russian police state is enough to protect them, they don't know the Gray Man. He's coming, and no one's safe.

Lots of action with suspense and many twist and turns along the way. Love that the background is so up-to-date with what is going on in the world in 2024.

The novel is heavily focused on the authors hard and distasteful view of current world events. It constantly and inaccurately demeans and insults Russian people. The book builds up to a climax that does not deliver. The reunion with the love of his life is dry and unexciting. The entirety of the book seemed to be a rant about what an awful place Russia is. I have read all Gray Man novels, and this will be my last unfortunately.

A very entertaining book, like all of the others in the series. This one was a little slower paced and you knew what inevitably was going to happen, even if you didn’t know how. This book really sets up what’s to follow. I’m excited to see how the next book continues on with the new developments in this last book.
  • Can’t put it in the best category.

Good, but over-the-top. I like the Gray Man series; however, this is merely an acceptable entry, not a great one. The story strains credulity. More spy details and agent adventures are needed, less full chapter action descriptions. Dozens of pages are filled with hard to believe fighting sequences. Too many pages describe weaponry. Plus, common sense dictates that because the enemy knows full-well what the rebel goals are, the prisoners would have been moved. I’m okay with what I read, but this novel could have been much better.
