The Nobility of Policing

We live in a democracy based on principles and the rule of law.  But as Plato understood, any democracy would need guardians whose mission would be to preserve those principles, to promote fundamental fairness, and to uphold the rule of law.  

In the community, the guardians are present-always-perhaps not visible, but they are there.  Be it at the local, county, state, or federal level, there are men and women prepared to respond without question in service of a worthy cause. 

The reality of policing is that our officers serve in the most challenging of environments--often misunderstood, often criticized, and are to often placed into circumstances demanding a split-second decision out of which there can be no winners.  Too often, policing does the greatest harm to those willing to take the oath and wear the badge. 

Yet, these noble and peaceful warriors embrace the challenge knowing that they serve a cause bigger than self-they serve a great good!

This book is about the profession of policing-and the men and women who safeguard our freedoms.  In doing so, they honor the nobility of policing.
