The essays in this anthology attempt to provide an overview of the current discussions surrounding young adult literature as a genre. While much of it is a careful synthesis of the work of established academics, this text should also provide a basis for further discussion and questioning of the genre—where the authors attempt to “define” the genre, it is based on research and analysis, but should in no way be assumed to be a conclusion. We want this anthology to be as organic and authentic as the literature it studies, to encourage exploration and discussion.
