I first came across Nicholas Sparks several years ago when I read "The Notebook". I truly enjoyed his writing. My little sister gave me this book. We came from a family of two brothers and one sister. Our Mom and Dad have also both passed from cancer. We are blessed that we all love each love each other. We do miss our parents everyday, but we look forward to seeing them again someday in heaven. We also lived in California as kids. So I related to some of his story. It was a very good book regardless of any similarities. I have also recommended this book to a dear friend who has been working with an autistic child. Thanks so much for a terrific novel!
Very inspiring read

My 14 year old son read this as an 8th grade English assignment and encouraged me to read it. As a busy Mom, I wondered how I would make the time to do so, and I'm so glad I did! Aside from an interesting travelogue, I most enjoyed the life lessons that the author relayed in a very heartwarming, folksy manner. I have taken time to reevaluate my own family relationships and priorities because of his book. I thoroughly recommend this!
Such a powerful read

Read this novel in high school. My English teacher gave us a list of books to pick from and I'm so glad that I picked this one. Such a powerful book, of their lives. Reading that they were the only survivors of their family is such a hard pill to swallow. Great read.
Great book to start with out of the collection

This was the very first NS book I ever picked up. It was 08/09 and of course I had seen many of the movies that had been made from his books but had absolutely no idea who he was. It was a good first read. I felt I really got to know the author. And it really made me want to read his other books. I was hooked. And now consider myself a huge fan.
