    This was better than the show/tv series but not as good as some other fantasy books. I am a huge fan of Grace Draven. Not sure why the book couldn’t name Dandelion Buttercup closer to the translation. Kudos to show for keeping the Polish word. Anxious to continue the series to see what exciting bits the series left out. Wish the author left more detail - maybe in next book.
    Gerald and Dandelion both are a nice refuge of loyal friends to read about. A nice world to get lost in.

  • Good intro to this series

    I had heard of The Witcher from the games and Netflix show, but never knew much about it other than from those sources. This book is an entertaining introduction to Geralt Of Rivia and the world of the Witcher in general. It’s basically a cross between Monster Hunter and Game of Thrones, with some of the stories focusing more on monster slaying, and others on the politics of the world.

    In each story, Geralt finds himself stuck between a rock and hard place and has to fight or think his way out of a situation. He’s a hardened monster hunter but also has enough humanity for you to be interested in his character, which I wasn’t expecting from what I’d seen from the game or show. If you’re even a little curious about this series, I’d recommend you read this, since you’ll probably enjoy it.

    I enjoyed the first edition novel for what it is and what it was, was a story telling book. The book introduced my favorite Witcher and his tells of travel and how he came upon all his friends that he later meets in the 5 phases of books. The most memorable story is the child of surprise which was depicted perfectly. Over all I would give this book a 4.5 / 5 if it allowed me too.

    I really love this book. It's my first time getting into them after playing the games.

    The writing is interesting. It's very dialogue-centric and uses more of a narrative approach to dialogue, where the characters speak to serve the story rather than in a realistic manner. It's actually quite an easy read and enjoyable.

    It's great to see some early backstory for Geralt. If you played the witcher 3 and loved it, but the Netflix show was a let down, definitely give the books a read! I know I will..

  • Fun collection of short stories

    Mostly came into this franchise from the video game. So I figured I’d give the original novels and chances and I’m glad that I did. This was really fun to read. It mostly plays out as short stories the lead character, Geralt is telling. It comes together real nice though. Also made it easy to read. I’ve you’ve never read the books or played the games, then know this is for mature readers. Keep away from children. Otherwise, I can’t read to read the next novel.

    My wife literally influenced me hard as I do game often and I must say that this book had me hooked from the start. I didn’t think I’d be much into reading in general but the pacing and way this was written just made it so easy to imagine what the scenes looked like with no effort at all. I’m very impressed and with everyone saying the video games are critically acclaimed while also staying close to the source material, I know this series is going to be amazing. Other reviewers will definitely say the same.

  • Not what was expected

    While this “beginner Witcher book” was a fun read, I found myself a bit let down by the constant poke and pillage of well-known fairy tales. Being a novice to the Witcher series, I simply did not expect that. Will I continue reading the series? Perhaps. Perhaps not. I’ll give it some thought and maybe someone will read this review and convince me to do so.
