    If you’re down or upset with the current political circus - this is the book to read!! It has helped me to be able to laugh at our current predicament and feel better in a time of such unrest and confliction. The Characters are well defined the storyline compelling and so laughable!

  • Witty with a Side of TDS

    I love Carl Hiassen books, so without reading the reviews I picked up “Squeeze Me.” The plot as usual was original, interesting & extremely witty. However, it was filled with politics, Trump derangement syndrome (TDS) to be exact. I don’t normally like politics in my fiction, I read to turn off the real world so this was not my cup of tea. However, if you enjoy making fun of Trump or find him ridiculous, this is the book for you. The story is, as stated above, an original & good read if you can get past the author’s obvious dislike of the Trump Family, the right, &/or TDS.

    First of all, I love Carl Hiaasen and I’ve read all of his books. I’ve always admired his humor and his ability to shine the light on the important issues we Floridians face has been flawless. The character Angie is great and it was a pleasure to get a peek at Skink again, but there is an over abundance of ranting and a constant demeaning characterization, of the political figures that is just plain off putting. I pretty much forced myself to finish the book.

    Not that I’m opposed to more Trump humor but since the joke is so directly on us, Im not sure what traction it gets. Oh, and I’ve found trying to stay away from anything that reminds me of trump is a much better option

    Bought this to get away from politics. My fault for not having read the reviews. Lost me with the SS agent screwing 1st Lady. Really stupid.
    Love the sarcasm about Palm Beach.

    Normally very entertaining reads, this one from Hiassen is fraught with efforts to display his Trump Derangement Syndrome at every opportunity to the point it seriously detracts from being able to enjoy the book. Also, early on a significant amount of firearms ignorance is displayed when he says Angie checked her Glock “to be sure the safety was on”. A minimum of research would show that Glocks have no external safety to be “on” or “off”. The safety is in the trigger mechanism and only “off” when the trigger is depressed by the user. Not his best work at all.

    Carl’s pen skewers south Floridians often hilariously. I have enjoyed some of his previous novels very much. But this one goes so far beyond satire and ‘fun-poking’ at Donald Trump that it becomes tough to plow through. Obviously Carl’s sympathy’s are with liberals but his previous efforts have been equal opportunity… no one has been safe. Had I known this one is more of a screed, I would have given it a pass.
