In a land without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She has no love for the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass, but she has not come to kill him. She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King's Champion.

Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. And a princess from a faraway country will befriend her. But something rotten dwells in the castle, and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying mysteriously, one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival-and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

  • So good

I thoroughly enjoyed this after my sister in law begged me to read it for months. The ONLY reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is I am not one who needs a ton of description and this book almost gave too much. So much so that I would skip a paragraph is just descriptions. But overall, obsessed with Celaena’s banter and quick witt and also love her and Nehemia’s friendship. Onto the next one 🙂‍↕️☺️

I was reading for the past 2 months but never really enjoying what I was reading. I could not read more than 50 pages in one sitting. I finished this book in 5 hours. Genuinely could not put it down. It is so unbelievably good. #grateful

Initially, I approached this series with a healthy dose of skepticism. The premise, a deadly competition to become the King's Champion, had me bracing for a rehash of The Hunger Games. Thankfully, my anxieties were completely unfounded. This book stands firmly on its own.

The romance, a potential pitfall in many fantasy novels, was handled with remarkable restraint. It simmered beneath the surface, adding a layer of tension without overwhelming the narrative. This subtlety was a welcome change, allowing the other facets of the story to shine.

Nehemia, in particular, was a revelation. Her character is truly golden, a beacon of strength and loyalty. Watching Celaena forge a genuine friendship was a heartwarming highlight, adding a much-needed emotional anchor to the high-stakes competition.

After a somewhat lukewarm experience with A Court of Thorns and Roses, which left me questioning Maas's widespread acclaim, Throne of Glass has completely redeemed her in my eyes. This book is a testament to her storytelling prowess, demonstrating her ability to craft engaging characters and intricate plots. I'm now eagerly anticipating diving into the rest of the series, excited to see where Celaena's journey takes her. Throne of Glass is a promising start to what I suspect will be an epic adventure.

Great story. A bit difficult to follow in regard the magical signs, but a true page turner…

I found it difficult to get through, the plot was predictable and sometimes even frustrating to read as the main character is supposed to be the smartest and most cunning character in the book, yet couldn’t figure out what was going on for most of the book that I had figured out in 5 minutes.
